District Wide Games

I think the wide games are very fun and I would have to say my favourite was cops and robbers. That is why I was sad when we did not have it this year. Over all the District wide games are a good way to have Scout troops come together and have a lot of fun in the process. This year we had a game where you had to travel across a field without the adults catching you. A game where you had to collect marks of different colours but before you can get a different one you have to get a red mark and finally a game where you have to go looking for aliens and they will give you a light. These games were really fun but my favourite this year was the one where you has to travel across the field. The alien one was quite hard and I was terrible at it. I could not get a single light. I would improve the next one by adding the cops and robbers game as it was the most fun in my opinion. They can also add the spaghetti game again as that one was also quite fun.

Cub Camp

I really liked Cub Camp because in free time we got to explore the whole campsite and I collected chestnuts to make when I got home. One of my favorite things we did as a group was that, on the first night we star-gazed and I saw The Little Dipper (Ursa minor) The Big Dipper (Ursa Major) and we also saw Jupiter. But my favourite thing was the cabin, it was really nice and cosy and it was in the middle of the forest. And the rooms looked out on all the trees. The tuck shop was really cool and they had mugs, woggles, pens, bouncy balls and much more. All in all I would really recommend this place to other Cubs as my stay was memorable and I will never forget my wonderful time. Thank you.

Patrol Leader Training

I went to Patrol Leader Training camp and it was very fun and educational. We learnt about how to lead a team, how to work in a team, how to risk assess and how to lead other people in a team. We stayed overnight in bunk beds at South London Scout Centre with Scouts from other Scout troops. I think I learnt a lot and it was a good opportunity to meet other Scouts.

Chief Scout Bronze reward day- Bird World

The moment I got off the coach we were given little booklets to tick when we saw the birds and I was sooo excited. Then we got in to groups, my group went over to the elegant owls. They looked really wise. Then we toddled over to the cockatoos, they were pretty but very noisy. So we went to see some penguins swimming gracefully in the water. It was feeding time and they looked really happy. After that we strolled over to the tortoises, they strangely weren't in my tick book so I ticked them off anyway as we trotted over to Fenny-wren

Baloo Trophy

From approximately 8:15 to 8:45, we were arriving before the event started. Then, once everyone had arrived, we walked up to the site: Bears Wood Scout Campsite. Afterwards, we set up a tent to put our bags in and make our way to the campfire circle for 9:00. Here, us and the other scouting groups gathered. After we had been told what we would be doing over the day, we all went to our first activities of the day. In total, there were 12 teams altogether. These teams were made up of each of the different scouting groups. As a result of this, there were 12 different activities that each team would complete throughout the day. There were two different types of activities; the first was the fun activities and the second was the scout activities. There were five fun activities (such as the water maze, space maze, zipline) and seven scouting activities (scout quiz, mapping, first aid etc). On each scouting activity, there was at least one of the different leaders of each of the groups. Also, on each activity you could score a total of 30 points. After every team had completed every activity, we had to head back to the campfire circle and here, the winners were announced. Although we did not place first, second or third, the entire day was very fun and I think we all enjoyed it.

SSC (Scout Summer Camp)

Scout Summer Camp (SSC) was full of many thrilling activities and events. Some of these activities included archery, tomahawk throwing, sewing, creating campfires on which we cook cook and carving objects out of wood and even hiking. On the hike we did during SSC, we had to plan out and navigate all the way up to London, helping us exercise our map reading and compass skills. Once in London, many surprises awaited us, such as various snacks and even a ride along the River Thames. Even after we arrived back from London, we got to watch and movie of our choice and eat fish and chips. I think one of the best things about camp was the fact that we were camping alongside 1st Crystal Palace, a great experience in which we had much fun and gained friends. At SSC we also cook all of our own food. This food is all picked out by the Scouts beforehand, making sure there is nutrition in all of our meals. One key factor of SSC is of course the leaders and all of the parent helpers as none of this would be possible without the hard work and support they provided thoughout the 5 days. They helped correct our menus, organise many fun challenges and wide games and most importantly made SSC special.

County Bake Off!

I really enjoyed the scout bake off as it was fun and educational. It was fun mainly because it was a nice activity and because it was tasty as well. The reason why it was educational was because we learnt how to bake good quality biscuits independently. I chose to decorate mine with the scout emblem and the peace sign.

Jamboree Experience

I think the experience of the Jamboree selection was quite interesting.   I felt the selection test was more of a learning experience because we each learnt something new: whether something abstract like how to be creativity or a specific skills like how to prepare and cook food. This taught us rudimentary survival skills as well as exposing to some South Korean culture. All the leaders encouraged interaction and the scouts took advantage of this and asked about things what we thought we would need to know if we were lucky enough to be chosen for the trip to South Korea. I particularly liked the fact that we were encouraged to have our own personal opinions and decide for ourselves if we wanted to go. Personally at the start I was not sure if I wanted to be selected to go but when we finished the bases, I was praying that I would be lucky enough to be chosen to go.

District Scout Wide Game

A District Wide Game is when lots of different Scout troops come together outside to play some games. In the one we did, there were 3 games. In the first one, you had to get to the pole and sound the horn on top while adults with torches threatened to send you back to the start. The next one, and my favourite, was Manhunt.  All you had to do was hide (they gave you 10 minutes to do so) and if you were caught, you were out. Finally there was Jailbreak, the area known as “jail” was right outside some woodland and if you were caught by adults patrolling the area you got sent to jail. However if you wanted to, you could try to sneak past everyone into the jail and shout “JAILBREAK” and everyone could run. In my opinion, these District Wide games are really fun and I hope more happen.

Beaver Space Fun Day

I went to Beaver Space Fun Day. We did lots of fun activities including bouncy castle, making bath bombs and a space hopper race. The best bit was Alien Splat. It was fun to meet new people.

Mock Jamboree Selection

Have you ever wanted to go to South Korea? Have you ever wanted to participate in a massive, life-changing event with thousands of others from different nations? I do, and I will assume you would as well. Recently, that has become a possibility, and I, along with others, have been given a headstart in achieving it. The world scout Jamboree takes place on a basis of once every few years, and if you pass the selections, raise the money and go, your life will change forever. It’s a phenomenon that most of the worlds population will miss, and the few that don’t, their lives have been ridden with happiness and success. I would take any possible opportunity to raise my chances of going. So that’s why I went to mock selection. Over a period of 2 days, I participated in a series of fun events, and on the way, learning every trick in the book on how to pass the Jamboree selection. All I can do is recommend it, if you want to go to the most incredible experience up for grabs.
